Dr Mercado is a board certified geriatrician. He has extensive training and experience in Geriatrics. He did his fellowship in Geriatrics in 1999 at Florida Hospital Orlando. He holds several University positions at NOVA and FSU. He also has developed extensive training in Europe in rejuvenation techniques.
Dr Mercado has developed the first GERIATRIC and REJUVENATION Center in Central Florida. He offers to his patients a comprehensive medical approach, totally different from traditional practices. He believes that “spending time with the elderly” is of paramount importance in order to come to a proper diagnosis. Since the diseases in the elderly most of the time don’t present in the “typical way”, it is important to have a clinical acumen. His consultations usually are at least an hour. He offers the “comprehensive geriatric assessment” which usually takes between 1 to 2 hours.
During each assessment or consultation special attention is placed to medications. Multiple medications and drug interactions are many times the culprit on many complaints of the elderly. His areas of most interest include: memory problems, lack of energy, lack of vitality, poor quality of life, DNA testing and rejuvenation techniques treating the patient inside and outside.
Dr Mercado offers any type of consultation for diseases of the elderly. His practice is unique due to the fact that he offers the latest technology to recover vitality and brain functioning as well as hormone modulation. One of the theories why people aged or develop chronic diseases is related to decline on hormones that usually starts since the age of 30, combined with poor life style choices. Using DNA (SNP) testing is able to offer a detailed analysis of the most common conditions affecting us such as osteoporosis, heart disease, poor antioxidant system, cholesterol and vitamin metabolism that are vital for DNA preservation.
His testing for hormone evaluation is state of the art. It includes blood test, 24 hour urine collection. Also the patient has to complete a 60 page questionnaire. The interview and testing is intense.
Dr Mercado, is called the “Geriatrician of the future” since he believes strongly that we can aged successfully and just not gracefully using the latest advancement in technology. He believes that the “organs” can be rejuvenated in a natural way and we can live longer while having excellent quality of life.
